With Halloween only a week away, promotions focused heavily on pumpkins, treats, and costumes.  Many stores offered quick meal ideas and prepared foods for trick-or-treat night.  Party favorites like mini bell peppers, baby carrots, grape tomatoes, avocados, grapes, and apple cider were very popular.  Floral departments featured fresh-cut and potted marigolds for Dia de Los Muertos observances along with colorful fall mums.\n\nTotal ad numbers this week were 298,197, a 2% decrease from last week's total of 304,551. The total for the same week last year was 1% higher at 301,737.  The total number of ads broken out by commodity groups: fruit 157,064 (53%), onions and potatoes 24,076 (8%), vegetables 106,049 (36%), herbs 1,156, ornamentals 4,192, hemp 5,288, and honey 1,528.  The number of ads for organic produce was 48,772, 16% of total ads.  \n\nThe following are the prices of major advertised items (3,000 plus ads) this week, compared to the same week last year. Significant increases in price for fruit this week included Gala apples (per lb.) at 34% and Granny Smith apples (per lb.) at 11%. Significant decreases included large avocados at 35%, seedless grapes (red at 14%, black at 11%), tangerines (3 lb. bag) at 13%, blackberries (5.6-6 oz.) at 12%, Barlett Pears (per lb.) at 11%, and avocados at 10%.   There were no significant changes in price for potatoes and onions this week.  Significant increases in price for vegetables this week included baby carrots (1 lb. bag) at 18% and large pumpkins (each) at 12%.
