Colorful arrays of hard squashes and pumpkins joined brilliant displays of apples and pears.  Pomegranates and cranberries offered pops of red and tangy fall flavor.  Hearty meal makers like cabbage, Brussels sprouts, sweet potatoes, carrots, and cauliflower were popular.  Chrysanthemums and marigolds brought fall color into the floral department.  Halloween costumes, candy, and decorations occupied most seasonal sections, though Thanksgiving and Christmas items were seen as well.  \n\nTotal ad numbers this week were 304,551, a 4% increase from last week's total of 293,986. The total for the same week last year was 2% lower at 298,103.  The total number of ads broken out by commodity groups: fruit 153,056 (50%), onions and potatoes 22,204 (7%), vegetables 120,344 (40%), herbs 853, ornamentals 3,161, hemp 4,545, and honey 1,241.  The number of ads for organic produce was 39,912, 13% of total ads.  \n\nThe following are the prices of major advertised items (3,000 plus ads) this week, compared to the same week last year. Significant increases in price for fruit this week included only strawberries (1 lb.) at 12%.  Significant decreases included raspberries (6 oz.) at 18%, red seedless grapes (per lb.) at 11%, Honeycrisp apples (per lb.) at 10%, and Gala apples (3 lb. bag) at 10%.  Significant changes in price for potatoes and onions this week included only a 13% increase for Russet potatoes (5 lb. bag) at 13%.  Significant increases in price for vegetables this week included only spaghetti squash at 10%.
