Ads focused on late summer fruit and favorites for get-togethers with family and friends.  Watermelons, cantaloupes, corn, potatoes, sweet onions, colored bell peppers, and avocados were featured heavily.  Labor Day signals the transition from summer to fall for many people, and favorites from both seasons were showcased in stores.  Peaches, nectarines, plums, and grapes offered sweet summer goodness, while autumn's first pumpkins and hard squashes appeared.  Potted chrysanthemums were advertised in most weekly flyers.  \n\nTotal ad numbers this week were 311,059, a 6% increase from last week's total of 293,165.  The total for the same week last year was 4% lower at 300,368.  The total number of ads broken out by commodity groups: fruit 188,720 (61%), onions and potatoes 22,309 (7%), vegetables 88,018 (28%), herbs 593, ornamentals 4,643, hemp 3,315, and honey 4,054.  The number of ads for organic produce was 39,177, 13% of total ads.  \n\nThe following are the prices of major advertised items (3,000 plus ads) this week, compared to the same week last year.   Significant increases in price for fruit this week included Pink Lady apples (per lb.) at 24%, plums (per lb.) at 19%, avocados (each) at 19%, apple juice (64 oz.) at 16%, yellow peaches (per lb.) at 15%, white peaches (per lb.) at 12%, red seedless grapes at 11%.  There were no significant decreases.  There were no significant changes in price for potatoes and onions this week.  There were no significant increases for vegetables this week.  Significant decreases included corn (each) at 21%.
