Retailers this week tried to lure shoppers out into the heat by offering red-hot savings on stone fruit, grapes, berries, melons, tomatoes, summer squash, and bell peppers.  With the 4th of July in the rearview mirror, it won't be long before back-to-school is in full swing, and some retailers have already begun offering school supplies and snacks to get parents in the mood to shop.\n\nTotal ad numbers this week were 263,988, a 1% decrease from last week's total of 26,728.  The total for the same week last year was 2% higher at 270,479.  The total number of ads broken out by commodity groups: fruit 164,074 (62%), onions and potatoes 14,887 (6%), vegetables 82,728 (31%), herbs 969, ornamentals 593, and hemp 1,706.  The number of ads for organic produce was 33,347, 13% of total ads.  \n\nThe following are the prices of major advertised items (3,000 plus ads) this week, compared to the same week last year. Significant increases in price for fruit this week included 64 oz apple juice at 18%, white seedless grapes at 13%, red seedless grapes at 12% and white flesh peaches and pint blueberries both at 10%. The only significant decrease was Rainier cherries at 14%.  There were no significant changes in price for potatoes and onions this week. The only significant increase in price for vegetables this week was cucumbers at 12%.
