Peaches, nectarines, cherries, and grapes were some of the sweetest deals for shoppers looking for freshness on a budget.  Watermelons, cantaloupes, honeydews, and specialty melons were plentiful.  The bounty of new crop offerings didn't stop with fruit, as sweet corn, zucchini, yellow squash, tomatoes, asparagus, and cucumbers were available from local and regional farms across the country. Many flyers featured 4th of July party supplies and fireworks.\n\nTotal ad numbers this week were 257,039, a 6% decrease from last week's total of 272,973.  The total for the same week last year was 13% higher at 296,072.  The total number of ads broken out by commodity groups: fruit 148,523 (58%), onions and potatoes 19,123 (7%), vegetables 84,044 (33%), herbs 549, ornamentals 809, and hemp 4,540.  The number of ads for organic produce was 32,492, 13% of total ads.  \n\nThe following are the prices of major advertised items (3,000 plus ads) this week, compared to the same week last year.   Significant increases in price for fruit this week included seedless grapes (white at 46%, red at 15%), red cherries at 14%, round mangoes at 13%, blackberries (5.6-6 oz.) at 11%, and strawberries (1 lb.) at 10%.  Significant decreases included tangerines (3 lb.) at 16% and red seedless watermelons (each) at 11%.  Significant changes for potatoes and onions this week included only a 16% increase for Russet potatoes (5 lb. bag) at 16%.  Significant increases in price for vegetables this week included cucumbers at 22%, yellow crookneck/straightneck squash at 11%, and asparagus at 10%.
