It's no surprise that the top summer holiday favorites, corn and watermelons, were by far the most advertised items this week.  Most flyers focused heavily on items for grilling like asparagus, pineapple, sweet onions, colored bell peppers, squash, and even peaches.  Several retailers offered packaged kits of burger fixings including sliced onions and tomatoes and washed lettuce leaves.  Potatoes, packaged lettuce blends, carrots, cucumbers, and celery were on hand for making any number of popular salads.  Cherries, berries, mangoes, apples, and tangerines were featured for fruit salad and desserts.  Patriotic-themed floral arrangements, potted ornamentals, and bakery items rounded out festive Memorial Day offerings.  \n\nTotal ad numbers this week were 286,124, a 14% increase from last week's total of 250,411.  The total for the same week last year was 5% lower at 272,514.  The total number of ads broken out by commodity groups: fruit 148,235 (52%), onions and potatoes 23,820 (8%), vegetables 108,699 (38%), herbs 1,162, ornamentals 3,379, and hemp 1,991.  The number of ads for organic produce was 27,682, 10% of total ads.  \n\nThe following are the prices of major advertised items (3,000 plus ads) this week, compared to the same week last year.   Significant increases in price for fruit this week included red cherries at 24%, yellow mangoes at 19%, pineapples at 15%, and round mangoes at 10%.  There were no significant changes for potatoes and onions this week.  There were no significant increases for vegetables this week.
