13 2026-02-06 Weekly Grocery Store Specialty Crops Feature Activity Super Deals for the Super Bowl Retail flyers were brimming with specials on football party favorites, including the champions of all Super Bowl produce, avocados, along with their sidekicks-jalapeƱos, cilantro, onions, Roma tomatoes, and tomatillos. Many ads offered ideas for making snack platters, along with deals on baby carrots, celery, cauliflower, broccoli crowns, and bell peppers. Lemons and limes were both popular for beverages and guacamole making. Shoppers celebrating Valentine's Day early were greeted with an abundance of floral arrangements, candy, and chocolate covered strawberries. Total ad numbers this week were 279,167, a 3% increase from last week's total of 270,431. The total for the same week last year was 2% lower at 273,836. The total number of ads broken out by commodity groups: fruit 146,538 (52%), onions and potatoes 28,441 (10%), vegetables 95,617 (34%), herbs 3,876, ornamentals 5,668, hemp 553, and honey 2,350. The number of ads for organic produce was 26,926, 10% of total ads. The following are the prices of major advertised items (3,000 plus ads) this week, compared to the same week last year. There were no significant increases in price for fruit this week. Significant decreases included limes (each) at 25%, avocados (each) at 18%, white seedless grapes (per lb.) at 13%, strawberries (1 lb. package) at 13%, and tangerines (3 lb. bag) at 12%. Significant changes in price for potatoes and onions this week included only 20% decrease for white onions (per lb.). There were no significant increases nor decreases in price for vegetables this week.
