26 2025-11-07 Weekly Grocery Store Specialty Crops Feature Activity Happy Veteran's Day Retailers this week brought out deals on Fall favorites in full force, with new crop pears and avocados featuring heavily along with the ongoing promotions for apples, grapes, and potatoes. Retailers thanked Veterans for their service while offering savings on items ranging from grocery staples to holiday baking supplies to items for cookouts and patriotic floral arrangements. Red, white, and blue were also seen on custom decorated offerings in bakery departments. Total ad numbers this week were 283,340, a 6% decrease from last week's total of 301,523. The total for the same week last year was 2% higher at 289,775. The total number of ads broken out by commodity groups: fruit 158,257 (56% of all ads), onions and potatoes 26,781 (9%), vegetables 90,930 (32%), herbs 0, ornamentals 3591, and hemp 3781. The number of ads for organic produce was 40,008, 14% of total ads. The following are the prices of major advertised items (3,000 plus ads) this week, compared to the same week last year. Significant increases in price for fruit this week included only Honeycrisp apples (per lb) at 18%. Significant decreases included red seedless grapes at 19%, Bosc pears at 18%, cranberries at 13%, and Hass avocados and Bartlett pears both at 10%. There were no significant changes in price for onions and potatoes or vegetables this week. For ornamentals, poinsettias (6-inch pot) had a significant price decrease of 43% this week.
