41 2025-07-25 Weekly Grocery Store Specialty Crops Feature Activity Delicious Deals Summer's bounty was evident this week as peak flavor was celebrated in stores across the country. Local produce was touted in ads as regional specialties come to market. New Jersey and Colorado peaches, Arizona cantaloupe, Arkansas zucchini, Kansas potatoes, Michigan cabbage, Oklahoma mushrooms, Delaware watermelon, Connecticut eggplant, Maine broccoli, Ohio tomatoes, Wisconsin green beans, Florida avocados, and Hawaii lemons were all showcased for shoppers hungry for tasty produce offered at delicious prices. Prepped and packaged items like kabob trays, sliced grilling vegetables, and burger fixings provided another way to encourage produce purchases. Total ad numbers this week were 256,029, a 1% decrease from last week's total of 259,555. The total for the same week last year was 16% higher at 304,961. The total number of ads broken out by commodity groups: fruit 161,517 (63%), onions and potatoes 13,127 (5%), vegetables 76,209 (30%), herbs 1,001, ornamentals 3,531, and hemp 1,645. The number of ads for organic produce was 33,158, 13% of total ads. The following are the prices of major advertised items (3,000 plus ads) this week, compared to the same week last year. There were no significant increases in price for fruit this week. Significant decreases included round mangoes at 27%. There were no significant changes in price for potatoes and onions this week. There were no significant increases nor decreases in price for vegetables this week. Significant changes for ornamentals included a 12% increase in the price of hybrid tea roses (bunched 12s).
