42 2025-07-18 Weekly Grocery Store Specialty Crops Feature Activity The Heat is on. Retailers leaned into summer's bounty this week, spotlighting peaches, tomatoes, cherries, strawberries, and apples as top-featured commodities. These fruit-forward features were complemented by seasonal staples like watermelons, peppers, onions, and corn. Total ad numbers this week were 259,555, down 2% from last week's total of 263,988. The total for the same week last year was 5% higher at 272,292. The total number of ads broken out by commodity groups: fruit 163,943 (63%), onions and potatoes 16,602 (6%), vegetables 76,539 (29%), herbs 658, ornamentals 863, and hemp 1,608. The number of ads for organic produce was 28,077, 11% of total ads. The following are the prices of major advertised items (3,000 plus ads) this week, compared to the same week last year. Significant increases in price for fruit this week included apples, processed at 12%, avocados at 11%, blueberries at 13%, seedless grapes (red at 46%, white at 43%), round mangoes at 13%, white nectarines at 11%, raspberries at 35% and strawberries at 10%. There were no significant changes in price for potatoes and onions this week. Significant increases in price for vegetables were artichokes at 18%. There were significant decreases in price for plum tomatoes at 14% and tomatoes in the vine at 10%.
