California peaches, nectarines, cherries, and apricots woke up sleepy produce departments. Florida tomatoes, corn, and potatoes joined up with zucchini, sweet onions, and portobella mushrooms for delicious grilled meals. Celebratory floral arrangements, party trays, and themed bakery items helped round out graduation party shopping baskets. Total ad numbers this week were 250,411, a 3% decrease from last week's total of 257,548. The total for the same week last year was 12% higher at 283,079. The total number of ads broken out by commodity groups: fruit 139,718 (56%), onions and potatoes 20,849 (8%), vegetables 87,508 (35%), herbs 776, ornamentals 454, and hemp 1,882. The number of ads for organic produce was 31,087, 12% of total ads. The following are the prices of major advertised items (3,000 plus ads) this week, compared to the same week last year. Significant increases in price for fruit this week included lemons (each) at 24%, Pink Lady/Cripps Pink apples (per lb.) at 18%, and blueberries (1 pint) at 12%. Significant decreases included avocados at 32%, organic blueberries (6 oz.) at 16%, blackberries (5.6-6 oz.) at 11%, and yellow mangoes at 11%. Significant changes in price for onions and potatoes this week included only a 21% increase for Russet potatoes (5 lb. bag). Significant increases in price for vegetables this week included green cabbage at 38% and grape tomatoes (1 pint) at 11%. There were no significant decreases.
